Hello everyone my name is Joshua Thicklin I'm a junior Radio Television Major and Sport Business Management Minor at the University of Central Florida. I'm currently the President of the John T. Washington Honor Society at UCF. I now serve as a writer for sportqanda.com and The Orlando Scene (theorlandoscene.com).
When I first stepped on to UCF campus three years ago it was definitely a bit of a culture shock. I was coming from a small art school in West Palm Beach to the second largest university in the nation. My message to anyone entering college is to make the most of your time. College is a time for you to transition from a student to a young professional. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying don’t have fun or just focus on business, of course not. College gives you the opportunity to do both so please go to concerts, parties, and sporting events but just don’t lose sight of the main goal.
For me I really wanted to get involved on campus and through joining different organizations they’ve helped me develop as not only a student but as a person. I was able to establish connections with people that’ve led to new opportunities. Surround yourself with people who are motivated and will constantly challenge you to be at your best. Remember you’re as good as the company you keep.
Until next time, continue to strive for greatness and never settle for average!!!
